Research Project: EVALUATION OF AIRBORNE REMOTE TO ASSESS FIELD CONDITIONS AND SPATIAL VARIABILITY

Location: Agricultural Land and Watershed Management Research

Project Number: 3625-21610-001-40
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 18, 2007
End Date: May 31, 2009

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to collect and evaluate visible, near-infrared, and SWIR reflectance data over agricultural fields to determine the patterns of spatial variation within fields. Evaluate the use of different remote sensing indices to detect crop growth differences and effects of tillage and residue management practices.

Approach:
Remote sensing data will be collected over agricultural fields throughout Indiana and Iowa during the growing season using hyperspectral sensors. Ground-based observations will be collected from these fields to provide ground-truth observations. Different wavebands will be combined into vegetative indices and then evaluated for their information content.
