Objective:
To conduct field experiments under irrigation of arid lands present in the Imperial Valley with the objective of improving productivity while minimizing offsite impacts.
Approach:
Imperial Valley Conservation Research Center will conduct research in cooperation with the Salinity Laboratory, ARS Salinas and other cooperating government agencies, universities, organizations, commodity groups and private industry under specific research protocols to be developed by the Center with cooperators.
Research will be conducted on various projects, including:
1. Reduction of nitrogen and phosphorus discharge from agricultural drainage waters utilizing constructed wetlands.
2. Salinity assessment mapping utilizing remote sensing ¿electro-magnetic" technology developed by the Salinity Laboratory. This work is cooperation with Imperial Irrigation District.
3. Field evaluations of sugar beet genotypes for resistance to cyst nematodes. Documents SCA with Imperial Valley Conservation Research Center Committee, Brawley, CA.
