Research Project: DETERMINATION OF ANTI-INSECT PROPERTIES OF CRUDE PLANT EXTRACTS AS WELL AS SEMIPURE AND PURE COMPOUNDS FROM PLANTS

Location: Food and Feed Safety Research

Project Number: 6435-41000-097-01
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 20, 2006
End Date: Dec 19, 2008

Objective:
Determine the insecticidal and/or insect retardant properties of aqueous extracts of bay leaf.

Approach:
(A) Crude aqueous extracts of bay leaf will be produced. These will be freeze-dried and then assayed in insect bioassays for insecticidal and/or insect retardant properties. (B) Crude aqueous extracts will be semipurified by column chromatography. Eluates will be freeze-dried and assayed in insect bioassays for insecticidal and/or insect retardant properties. (C) Compounds in the semipure extracts will be chromatography separated. Compounds will be assayed in insect bioassays for insecticidal and/or insect retardant properties.
