Research Project: ACCURATE IDENTIFICATION AND GENE EXPRESSION IN RELATION TO VIRULENCE OF RHIZOCTONIA ISOLATES INFECTING TURFGRASSES

Location: Floral and Nursery Plants Research Unit

Project Number: 1230-22000-029-01
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Feb 01, 2007
End Date: Jan 31, 2010

Objective:
Investigate the genomic fingerprinting and phylogenic analyses of Rhizoctonia solani isolates affecting turf grasses to develop molecular identification method(s) for R. solani; Studies of gene expression affecting virulence of R. solani infecting turgrasses.

Approach:
Isolation of R. solani isolates from turf grasses; development of PCR and/or other molecular assays to detect and differentiate Rhizoctonia species and anastomosis groups affecting turf grasses; identification of R. solani isolates and examination of gene expression of virulence-related genes using Expressed Sequence Tag analysis or other approaches.
