Research Project:
IMPROVING THE PROSPECTS FOR DETECTION AND ERADICATION OF CITRUS HUANGLONGBING
Location: National Clonal Germplasm Repository for Citrus & Dates
Project Number: 5310-21000-009-01
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: Feb 23, 2006
End Date: Sep 14, 2008
Objective:
Develop a more robust PCR test for detection of citrus HLB, especially to identify the new forms of HLB in Brazil; Monitor citrus psyllids and their natural enemies in healthy and infected orchards; and Monitor the spread of HLB by psyllids during different seasons; and monitor suspected samples in Florida for HLB.
Approach:
Develop a more robust PCR test for detection of citrus huanglongbing (HLB), especially to identify the new strains of HLB in Brazil and monitor the spread of HLB by psyllids during different seasons by testing psyllids caught in suction traps or by hand in Florida and Brazil by PCR testing for the presence of HLB. The PCR products will be cloned and sequenced for confirmation. Experiments will be conducted to increase the sensitivity of PCR by improving extraction methods, and developing new sequence for HLB with the objective of developing sensitive PCR detection methods. Documents reimbursable with U of FL. Log 29404. FORMERLY 5310-21000-008-07R (8/08).
