Research Project:
COMPLETE NEEDED ENHANCEMENTS OF OMS AND DELIVERY OF THE OMS-PROTOTYPE FIELD TO WATERSHED SCALE MODEL FOR CEAP
Location: Agricultural Systems Research Unit
Project Number: 5402-13660-007-07
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 01, 2008
End Date: Sep 30, 2010
Objective:
1. Implement, maintain, and enhance the Object modeling system and a library of modules for completing the building the CEAP prototype watershed scale model.
2. Actively assist ARS scientists to build, verify, and evaluate the OMS-prototype simulation of environmental outcomes of conservation and management with data from selected watersheds.
3. Develop functionalities for accessing NRCS and other databases, and implement space-time tools for land unit delineation, parameterization, and scaling in OMS for landscape processes and their interactions, and analysis of spatial-temporal outputs.
Approach:
The Object Modeling System currently has the essential core modules for building an initial prototype watershed model from the German J2000 and J2000S models and several modules from the ASR Unit¿s models. These modules will be further verified and integrated to build a prototype watershed model. The OMS functionalities will be enhanced as needed during this process. The ARS scientists will evaluate this initial prototype with experimental data from 2 to 3 watersheds for environmental outcomes of land management and conservation practices, for the NRCS Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP). Based on these tests, the component modules will be improved or replaced with new improved modules. To facilitate the application of the improved prototype, functionalities will be developed in OMS to access appropriate databases. The tools developed by ARS scientists for land delineation, parameterization, and scaling will be implemented. The final package will be delivered to NRCS and ARS modelers for further evaluation and feedback for improvements.
