Research Project:
IMPROVING EROSION AND SEDIMENT TRANSPORT MODELS AND DEVELOPMENT IN SUPPORT OF USDA AGENCIES
Location: Watershed Physical Processes Research Unit
Project Number: 6408-13000-019-01
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 26, 2007
End Date: Jul 24, 2012
Objective:
Complete and refine numerical-empirical models for 1-D stream channel routing that more accurately represent the movement of sediment through channel networks. Model channel morphology changes and add these changes to the CCHE2D code. Model scour around spur dikes and headcut processes. Conduct numerical model verification and validation for 3-D free surface hydrodynamic model. Develop, verify, refine, validate numerical models for simulating sediment relater water qualityproblems in channel networks (1D) and in a reach of rivers, reservoirs, or lakes (2D and 3D). Provide modeling support to DEC agencies.
Approach:
Refine the CCHE1D Graphical User Interface (GUI) and stream routing models to more accurately describe sediment movement through the channel network and watershed sediment yield processes. Complete and document beta-tests, refine the CCHE2D Version 1 with GUI, and alpha-test sediment transport for modeling channel evolution. Conduct simulation studies of local scour around spur dikes and headcuts with CCHE3D models. Refine verification and validation procedures for 3-D free surface hydrodynamic and sediment transport models. Provide software support, user's manual, and documentation of mathematical models and associated software to users group.
