Research Project:
EVALUATION OF NOVEL APPROACHES FOR INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF ARMILLARIA ROOT ROT OF PEACH
Location: Kearneysville, West Virginia
Project Number: 1931-21000-017-05
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: Aug 01, 2005
End Date: Jul 31, 2008
Objective:
To develop stone fruit germplasm resistant to Armillaria Root Rot (ARR).
Approach:
Plum plants (Prunus domestica) that we have previously transformed with the Gastrodia Anti-fungal Protein (GAFP) gene will be proliferated in culture, rooted, and acclimated to greenhouse conditions for testing resistance to ARR in this material. Research on the improvement of transformation systems for peach will be undertaken with the aim of transferring the GAFP gene into peach.
