ASTER Data Redistribution Policy

The ASTER data redistribution policy pertains to all ASTER data and products purchased and/or acquired from the LP DAAC.

ASTER data and products purchased through the EOS Data Gateway (EDG) or GloVis or acquired through the LP DAAC Data Pool, the ASTER Expedited data process, or TerraLook have no restrictions on subsequent use, sale, or redistribution regardless of the date of purchase.

Data redistribution restrictions apply when NASA approved users receive ASTER data at no cost.  Individuals who have been approved to receive ASTER data and products at no cost are categorized as NASA-Funded Researchers or Affiliated Users.

NASA-Funded Researchers receive funds directly from NASA through a grant, contract, or cooperative agreement.

Affiliated Users are divided into the following categories:

• Researchers who receive NASA research funds through a third party.
• Researchers from interagency and international partners affiliated with NASA through joint projects.
• Educational users including both NASA-sponsored and non-NASA-sponsored.

ASTER data and products acquired at no cost by NASA-Funded Researchers or Affiliated Users are limited by the following redistribution restrictions:

• Researchers and educators may only redistribute these data and products to other researchers and educators.
• Redistribution of acquired data and products is prohibited to the general public and others not fitting the stated criteria.

Approved no cost users not complying with the above restrictions will be billed for all data and products received at no cost and will lose their privilege to acquire additional ASTER data at no cost.
