Wastewater

Animal Feeding Operations (AFO) - agricultural operations where animals are kept and raised in confined situations

Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO) - sewers that are designed to collect rainwater runoff, domestic sewage, and industrial wastewater in the same pipe

National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) - a permit program which regulates point sources (like discharges through a pipe or into a ditch) that empty pollutants into waters of the United States

Pretreatment - publicly owned treatment works which collect wastewater from homes and businesses and transport it via a series of pipes, known as a collection system, to a treatment plant

Septic Systems for Small Communities - onsite or clustered treatment systems for household and commercial sewage; generally the waste is pumped into a chamber underground and the liquid seeps through the soil

Stormwater - runoff from land and impervious areas such as streets, parking lots, and roofs during rain and snow events

Underground Injection Control - the injection of fluids underground in porous rock formations through wells or other systems such as septic systems or cesspools

Water Infrastructure - drinking water treatment plants, sewer lines, drinking water distribution lines, and storage facilities
