Document Production Center
EPA's Office of Administration and Resources Management provides in-house copying and printing services to all EPA employees through its Document Production Center. The Center fulfills small job requests, such as photocopies and wide format printing in-house, while outsourcing larger requests (e.g., publications, newsletters, letterhead, notepads, and some color photocopying) to bidding organizations. The center handles approximately 1,000 print orders and makes approximately 10 million photocopies each year.
The Document Production Center also procures all of the paper used for print and copy jobs, as well as individual copying and printing throughout the Agency.
Environmental Features
- All print jobs produced through the Document Production Center use 100 percent recycled paper with a minimum of 50 percent postconsumer fiber content—a significant increase from the 30 percent postconsumer content required by Executive Order 13423.
- Print jobs use vegetable oil-based inks in place of petroleum-based inks to reduce the amount of volatile organic compounds released into the air during printing.
- Where available, copy and print jobs within the production center and individual offices use process-chlorine-free paper. EPA coordinated with the Government Printing Office to establish a contract with manufacturers to supply paper that satisfies these high standards.
- To raise awareness about EPA's efforts, all external publications include the recycled logo with the statement "Printed on 100 percent recycled/recyclable paper with a minimum 50 percent post-consumer fiber using vegetable-based ink." When more than 50 percent post-consumer fiber is used, the exact number is reported.
