Abstract

The new Level 3 oceanic rainfall algorithm being developed under the current contract should be ready by the next version up in the processing system. This algorithm will be more robust with respect to the calibration uncertainties of the AMSR-E data. Moreover it will provide uncertainty estimates along with the rainfall totals. In the effort proposed here, the new algorithm will be installed and tested in the operational environment and maintained as problems are discovered or develop due to instrumental changes. Improved estimates of sources of uncertainty developed external to this effort will be incorporated into the algorithm as appropriate.
