This is an "Integrated Science Data Analysis" proposal that describes an effort to incorporate MODIS and AMSR-E data with TRMM, DOD and NOAA satellite data to improve the "CMORPH" high resolution global precipitation analysis technique. The major thrust of this proposal is to refine a inter-calibration scheme so as to reduce discontinuities and relative biases in the satellite data that arise because of the disparate spectral characteristics of the various sensors. We also propose to conduct a set of experiments to estimate the uncertainty in the value of global mean precipitation as a function of satellite data availability, because the satellite constellation varies with time, and this information is nedded to validate trends in global mean precipitation.
Our proposed work has direct relevance to four of NASAs Strategic Plan goals, namely 3.A.2, 3.A.4, 3.A.5 and 3.A.6.
