2008 AIB Population Category Award Winners

30 communities from all regions of the country participated in the seventh edition of America in Bloom.

America in Bloom’s 2008 population category winners are:
• 5,000 or less – Greendale, Indiana
• 5,001-10,000 – North Manchester, Indiana
• 10,001-15,000 – Greendale, Wisconsin
• 15,001-25,000 – Stuart, Florida
• 25,001-50,000 – West Lafayette, Indiana
• 50,001-100,000 – Fayetteville, Arkansas
• 100,001 or more – Toledo, Ohio

5,000 or less – Greendale, Indiana  press release
Greendale’s heritage preservation efforts are recognized. The city has preserved the old firehouse and turned it into a state of the art police station. Both the police station and new firehouse have preserved many old photos that have been enlarged and placed on walls for public display. Under municipal leadership the community is working together to save the old, historic fort on the Glenn property rather than allowing it to fall victim to a housing development. The proposed state park would preserve the history and provide educational, recreational and economic opportunities for the area. Preserving the top of this bluff is a sound decision for the environment since it is so close to several rivers.

2008 AIB Criteria Award Winners Announced

Eight special awards were presented to communities which received high marks out of all contestants in all population categories.

Ball Horticultural Company Floral Displays Award
Ironton, Ohio

Sometimes we need to make some dramatic changes to revitalize our communities and capture the attention of others. One day the wonderful old historic community of Ironton, after several decades of decline, said to itself, "It’s time to bloom again." And blooming beautiful it is! The Ironton In Bloom committee, in harmony with the municipal leadership, civic minded organizations, businesses, and individuals, have revitalized the spirits and interest of everyone who lives or visits the community with a bold splash of living color. Ironton's spectacular floral displays make you smile and feel beautiful.
