The emphasis of Dr. Krutz's research program is elucidating the environmental fate of agrochemicals in crop production systems containing edge-of-field and in-field best management practices.  Dr. Krutz has made significant contributions to the field of environmental chemistry including (1) elucidating retention mechanisms for dissolved phase herbicides and herbicide metabolites in vegetated filter strips, (2) relating chemical, physical, and biological properties of vegetated filter strip soil to the potential for subsequent herbicide/herbicide metabolite transport, (3) glyphosate risk assessment, (4) and phytoremediation of hydrocarbon contaminated soil.  In addition, he has published review articles on the use of solid-phase microextraction for herbicide determination in environmental samples and the use of vegetative filter strips for reducing herbicide runoff from agricultural fields.

Prior to joining SWSRU, Dr. Krutz was a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University.
