Session Descriptions
Please note that some sessions/workshops have maximum attendance capacity. No advance sign-up is required. All seats are available on a first come, first served basis, unless otherwise noted.

The conference agenda is divided into the following main program session types:

Auxiliary Events
Tuesday, May 27–Saturday, May 31

The auxiliary event program features events hosted and coordinated by the Council’s member, partner, and sponsor organizations that enhance and complement the formal Conference program. Events may include workshops, panel sessions, networking receptions, and product or program launches or report outs | more info.

Forum Sessions
Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30: 8:30-10:30 am | Saturday, May 31: 9-11 am

The Forum format is relatively new to the Council’s conference. It is a facilitated 2-hour session in which four presenters each have 15 minutes to make a presentation, followed by a question-and-answer period. Most forum speakers are selected from the competitive abstract process; their abstracts presented something new and innovative, or a latest finding that should be disseminated at the conference, but that did not fit into any of the established panel discussions. While the presenters are grouped based on similar key health issues, their presentations do not necessarily “go together” in the traditional sense, and the question-and-answer period follows each presenter as opposed to at the end of all the presentations.

Panel Sessions
A-H Series
Tuesday, May 27–Saturday, May 31

Moderated 2-hour sessions in which three to four presenters have approximately 15 minutes each to present, followed by a question-and-answer period. There are up to eight sessions taking place concurrently in each 2-hour session period | more info
Most presenters are selected from the competitive abstract process.

Plenary and Special Sessions
NEW - Opening Plenary Session/Tues. May 27: 1-2:30 pm | Plenary/Wed. May 28: 4-5:30 pm |
Special Session/Fri. May 30: 8:30-10 am | Special Luncheon Session/Fri. May 30: 12:30-2 pm |
Plenary/Fri. May 30: 4:30-6 pm | Closing Session/Sat. May 31: 1–2:30pm

All plenary and special sessions will take place in the Regency Ballroom, except for the Saturday closing session, which will take place in the Palladian Ballroom. Plenary and special sessions are designed to be inspirational and informative to all who work in global health. The format of the sessions is an unscripted dialogue with a moderator and four speakers, all of whom are experts and/or leaders in their field. The conference co-chairs are each featured within one of the plenary or
special sessions.

Policy Series @ Conference
PS1- PS8
Tuesday, May 27–Friday, May 30

The policy series sessions are designed to prompt learning and discussion around key issues in the areas of advocacy, research and outreach within the context of bringing about sound policy changes in global health.

This conference series is patterned after the Global Health Council’s popular D.C.–based Policy Series events which provide a platform for global health practitioners to inform and engage in global health policy through congressional briefings, educational forums, and policy dinner dialogues. Sessions are put together by Global Health Council staff, and presenters are invited to speak | more info.

Poster Session & Gallery
Thursday, May 29
10:30 am–12:30 pm

The poster session will take place in the Blue Room Pre-Function area. Each presenter is provided with a 4x4 foot (122x 122 cm) bulletin board area to place charts, graphs, photos, text, and other artifacts that describe his/her project or study. All poster presenters will be available during the Thursday morning session to speak with participants about their work. The poster gallery will remain up for viewing in the Blue Room Pre-Function area until
2 pm on Friday, May 30.
Most presenters are selected from the competitive abstract process.

Roundtable Session
Thursday, May 29
2:30–4:30 pm

The roundtable session will take place in several different rooms, organized by theme/topic and/or key health issue. Each presenter sits at a table with a small group of participants to discuss a program or research topic. During the 2-hour session, each presenter will give his/her presentation twice so participants will have the opportunity to attend two roundtable presentations. The session will flow as follows: presenter has 20 minutes to present, followed by a 35-minute question-and-answer period; the participants have the opportunity to change tables and then the process starts over again for the
second time.
Most presenters are selected from the competitive abstract process.

Speakers Corner
NEW for 2008

The Speakers Corner will be located at the end of the 700 aisle in the International Exhibition hall. This informal format is designed for an individual presenter or small group of presenters to engage an audience in “off the record” discussions around an area of concern, an innovative project idea, or a new way to take action.
