Other Tsunami-Affected Countries
In the Maldives, Somalia, Malaysia and Seychelles, USAID focuses on emergency relief and humanitarian assistance. USAID's work includes providing food, water and sanitation and shelter to communities affected by the tsunami.
Maldives
USAID provided 3 airlifts to Maldives, transporting the following:
- 250 rolls of plastic sheeting which provided temporary shelter for 750 people;
- 3 water bladders;
- 9,600 water containers which provided safe drinking water for approximately 24,000 people; and
- 2,000 hygiene kits that served over 10,000 people.
USAID also provided $1,200,000 for health, nutrition, water and sanitation. Combined assistance from the U.S. Government to the Maldives totaled $1,363,000.

Somalia
In Somalia, the U.S. Government provided a total of $834,331 in assistance. Of that, USAID provided $300,000 for health care in Puntland and almost $400,000 in emergency assistance for Lower Juba.

Malaysia
The U.S. Government, including USAID, provided a total of $50,000 in assistance for Malaysia. Most aid went to the northwestern part of the country to fund emergency relief supplies and material for shelters.
Seychelles
In the Seychelles, USAID gave the Seychelles Red Cross $50,000 for emergency relief programs.
