COP 13: Intervention by the United States Delegation -- IPCC Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) (Agenda Item 7)Meeting of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technical Advice IPCC Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) (Agenda Item 7) As submitted to UNFCCC Secretariat. The U.S. welcomes the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report. We extend our gratitude to the many authors and scientists whose hard work the report embodies. The report represents a significant advance in the state of understanding of the science and impacts of climate change. Its findings indicate that urgent and increased action to mitigate and adapt to climate change is warranted. The United States believes that countries should take these findings into consideration in the formulation of national policies and measures to address climate change. In the United States, the President has stated his commitment to establishing a long-term global goal for emissions reduction. Here in the UNFCCC, we believe that existing agenda items should draw on the important findings of this report during their considerations, for example, through the adaptation and research and systematic observations agenda items. Of course the report will also inform the discussions of discussions under the Convention track. |
