Mini- Grant Winners

Each year the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association sponsors ten mini-grants. Any rural K – 12 classroom teacher whose school or community is served by a local Rural Electric Cooperative, or whose students’ homes are served by a local Rural Electric Cooperative is eligible to apply for a mini-grant.   Eligible projects featured an investigation of the science of energy or electricity. Project ideas included a study of the local geology, the history of hydroelectric generation in the community, or alternative sources of energy for the next generation. The projects were limited only by the imagination of students and the resources available. This year’s winners are: Spring Grove Public Schools; Sidney School; Walton Verona High School; South Ripley School District; MSD of Martinsville; Kickapoo Area School District; Cashton Public Schools; Edmonson County Schools; Sumter County School District Two; and Gustine Independent School District. Our appreciation is extended to Pat Cruzeiro, chair of the Teacher Activities Committee, and Simon Hare and the employees of NRECA for reviewing the applications.
