Ground water trends

Objectives: The primary objective of the sampling at ground-water trend sites is to contribute to a national-level study of water-quality trends. A secondary objective is to provide some information about the temporal variability of water quality of ground water in the Springfield Plateau aquifer of the Ozark Plateaus.

Approach: Water quality samples have been collected from six wells in southwestern Missouri, northwestern Arkansas, and northeastern Oklahoma in 2002 and 2005. Five of these wells were sampled previously as part of the ground-water sampling in 1993-1995. A well in a primarily forested area was sampled beginning in 2002.

Timing: Samples were collected in the spring of the year.

Targeted constituents: Constituents included nutrients, some major ions, trace elements, and pesticides
