Ground-water conditions in southern Florida

Water-level Conditions for the End of August 2008 in South Florida

Site status is calculated based on long-term average water levels

Summary of Conditions

A 7-day running average of daily recorded water levels is compared to the statistical distribution of daily water levels for the site period of record for selected sites in southern Florida. More detailed information for each site is available through the map links and the pages listed below. Detailed information on how the map was created, and the information used to derive the mapped data are also available on this site.

Metadata, for the site location GIS coverage used to create the map, is available in FGDC and HTML formats.

Postscript and Adobe PDF versions of the map are available for printing. The Adobe PDF Reader program is available, at no cost, from Adobe. When viewed as a PDF file, the map image may be re-sized for viewing or printing.

Water-level reports from South Florida monitoring sites from the end of August 2008

Purpose and overview of this web project

Prior to September 2000, the Florida Integrated Science Center - Water and Restoration Studies (FISC-WRS) had produced an End-of-Month (EOM) report summarizing water-level information throughout South Florida. The majority of these wells were not monitored in real-time via satellite telemetry, so this was the primary method of disseminating the provisional data from these sites to regional water managers. However, the old EOM report had inherent drawbacks caused by computer system and database limitations when the report was designed more than 10 years ago. Because of the drawbacks of the old, printed report and the widespread availability of the World Wide Web (WWW), this site has replaced the EOM report.

The stations presented in these WWW pages are continuously monitored by on-site equipment. The data collected are held on-site until downloaded by a USGS technician during a monthly site visit. These visits are scheduled every 4-8 weeks, based on operational requirements, and so the data on this page are only generally expected to be current up to the second month before the current month. In any case, the data presented are provisional, as they are retrieved directly from the USGS database without final quality assurance/quality control review.
