Title: Water-Level Monitoring Sites
Description:

Abstract:
This coverage represents the location and basic hydrologic description of select water level monitoring sites in southern Florida.

Purpose:
The purpose of this data set is to provide geographic location information, combined with USGS site identification names and numbers, that water level elevation information could be linked to for display.

Supplemental_Information:
Site information, such as type, IDs, latitude/longitude is obtained from the USGS NWIS database. This, as well as related, data may be available at <URL:http://waterdata.usgs.gov/fl/nwis/si> Some water level information may be obtained from <URL:http://waterdata.usgs.gov/fl/nwis/gw>

Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Water levels are reported to a precision of 0.01 feet, with an estimated accuracy based on periodic tapedown with steel tape of 0.05 feet. Latitude and longitude are reported to a precision of 1 second. Accuracy may be greater for some stations.

Logical_Consistency_Report:
Point locations have been verified against county boundaries, and in most cases to available street map. Aquifer code assignment has been verified based on available well screen interval data and aquifer extent information.

Completeness_Report:
Sites for this coverage are selected based on being part of the USGS cooperative data collection program. Ground-water sites for which water level data has not been collected in the 45 days prior to coverage update are omitted. Of the selected surface-water sites used for hydrologic comparison, those site for which water level data has not been computed in the 180 days prior to coverage update are omitted.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Select sites that are monitored for changing water levels using electronic data loggers or related monitoring equipment. Site description information, and water level data retrieved on a periodic basis from USGS hydrologic data database. All data stored in a separate project database.
Process_Date: 2008.11.07

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Data retrieval for period of record statistical calculations is performed on a monthly schedule using perl 5 with DBD extensions. Descriptive statistics are calculated using SAS statistical software, the output of which is stored in the project database for further use. Data from the current fiscal year is omitted from these calculations based on data quality considerations.
Process_Date: 2008.11.07

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Data retrieval for 7-day statistical calculations is performed on a daily schedule using perl 5 with DBD extensions. Descriptive statistics are calculated using SAS statistical software, the output of which is stored in the project database for further use.
Process_Date: 2008.11.07

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Data retrieval for coverage generation is performed twice daily using perl 5 with DBD extensions. The perl script, along with Arc/Info AML scripts, retrieves the 7-day mean water level and the weekly 10th, 30th, 50th, 70th, and 90th percentile data for daily water level records.

Marker symbol assignment is carried out based on the comparison of the 7-day mean to the weekly percentile data.
