To protect public health and the environment from unreasonable risks posed by pesticides, EPA regulates the use of pesticides under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act and related laws. Going beyond compliance with the law, many of EPA's partners are working voluntarily with the Agency to reduce pesticide risk even further by developing and evaluating new pest control practices. Through these partnership projects, growers across the United States are testing alternatives to conventional pesticides such as biological pesticides or biopesticides, reduced-risk chemical applications, and other forms of pest control. Many of these alternatives are working.
Some of EPA's innovative partnerships include the:
- Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program
- About the Edison Electric Institute and Federal Partners Memorandum of Understanding on Integrated Vegetation Management
- U.S. Department of Agriculture's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program
- Consumer Labeling Initiative
- Non-Agricultural Partnerships
