Established in September 2002, the National Pollution Prevention and Toxics Advisory Committee (NPPTAC) provided advice, information and recommendations on the overall policy and operations of programs managed by the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) in performing its duties and responsibilities under the Toxics Substances Control Act (TSCA) and the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA).
By sharing their experience, expertise and advice, committee members made important contributions to the Agency's work. In August 2007 a decision was made to utilize a range of approaches to obtain stakeholder input, both formal and informal. NPPTAC, therefore, has completed its charge and no longer meets. New approaches to obtain stakeholder input include not only public review and comment on formal Agency actions, but conferences and meetings and consultations with individual stakeholders on specific issues. These meetings will bring together individuals with diverse and balanced views on a broad spectrum of issues.
Objectives of NPPTAC were to provide policy advice and recommendations in areas such as assessment and management of chemical risk, pollution prevention and toxic chemicals, risk communication, and opportunities for coordination. The NPPTAC Web site was created to make this information available, as well as information on the activities and meetings of the committee. This site now contains this information, but in archived form, which means it is no longer being updated by the Agency. However, this important information remains on the site as a useful reference.
