Chemical Priority Lists

The AEGL Program develops AEGL values for chemicals that could potentially cause dangerous inhalation exposures to persons through accidental releases to air or by means of a terrorist action. Priority chemical lists for AEGL development have been developed by combining the nominations of chemicals by stakeholder organizations. In this way, those chemicals of most concern and interest for a variety of scenarios, including industrial, transportation, or chemical remediation accidents as well as potential malicious release, become priority candidates for AEGL development. While it is expected that AEGL development will focus primarily on these listed chemicals, occasionally other chemicals also become of interest and are nominated for priority consideration.

The first AEGL Chemical Priority List of 85 chemicals appeared in the Federal Register on May 21, 1997. Fifteen chemicals were subsequently added and are included in this Internet site listing. The Second AEGL Chemical Priority List also appeared in the Federal Register on May 31, 2002 and contained 371 priority chemicals, 137 of which were considered a high priority than the other 234 chemicals. All 471 AEGL priority chemicals are included below:
