Daily mean streamflow (discharge)

This chart shows the daily mean streamflow at Peachtree Creek from October 1, 2001 to September 30, 2002 (water year 2002). In this chart, one data value is plotted for each day. That value is the mean (average) of all measured streamflows during that day. Don't confuse daily mean streamflow with peak streamflow, which is the highest instantaneous streamflow measured during a day. As is typical of small urban streams such as Peachtree Creek, during periods of high water, peak streamflow could be many times higher than daily mean streamflow.

Monthly streamflow statistics

This chart summarizes mean monthly streamflow (average of all streamflows during the month) for water year 2002 and presents the maximum, minimum, and monthly mean (average of all monthly averages) values for the complete period of record of 1958 to 2002. Thus, four values are presented for each month:

The blue bar shows the mean of all measured streamflows for the month. Think of it simply as the average streamflow for the month.
Maximum monthly

The top point of the brown bar shows the maximum monthly mean streamflow of all mean monthly streamflows, for the years 1958 to 2002. For example, the first bar shows that of all monthly mean streamflows for October from 1958 to 2002, the highest was about 400 cubic feet per second (the year this occurred is not presented).

The small horizontal bar on the brown bar shows the mean monthly mean streamflow of all mean monthly streamflows, for the years 1958 to 2002.
Minimum monthly
mean streamflow
The bottom point of the brown bar shows the minimum monthly mean streamflow of all mean monthly streamflows, for the years 1958 to 2002.

Annual mean streamflow

This chart of annual mean streamflow shows the average of all streamflows during each year from 1958 to 2002. Since the data show the average for the year, this chart allows you to see when "dry" and "wet" years occurred. Notice the low values for 1999-2002, which were severe drought years in Atlanta.

Annual minimum 7-day average streamflow

Data about 7-day minimum average streamflow provide useful information about drought periods (maybe not so important in 2003, but very important during the drought of 1999-2002). This chart shows the lowest mean streamflow for seven consecutive days for each year. For example, during the seven-day period of September 6-12, 2002, the mean streamflow was 5.5. cubic feet per second, the lowest ever measured at this gage.

Annual peak streamflow

This chart shows the highest instantaneous streamflow measured at Peachtree Creek during each year. Continuous measurements began in 1958, but, data does exist for some earlier floods.
