Introduction

Development around Coeur d'Alene Lake has accelerated over the past 10 years. Recent commercial and residential development proposals adjacent to the lake raise concerns about the potential for declining lake levels.

A comprehensive lake water budget is needed to help resource managers determine the possible affects of growth on lake levels.

Work Plan

Work for this project will begin in February 2007 and be completed by September 30, 2008. During the first year, we will:

  • Assign staff and distribute duties
  • Calculate inflows and outflows from Coeur d'Alene Lake using USGS streamflow data
  • Estimate inflow for ungaged drainages using StreamStats
  • Compute evaporation and storage levels
  • Meet with cooperator and various county agencies and community organizations

In the second year, we will focus on compiling and disseminating data in the form of:

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) geodatabase, maps, and associated metadata
  • Water use data and metadata
  • Data Series Report or inclusion of data into the Idaho Annual Water Data Report
