U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission William Grant joined Lebanese American University president Joseph Jabbra, administration and faculty members, and students on November 8 to mark the U.S. government’s donation of $400,000 in additional scholarship money to the university.  The funds, provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will support 310 deserving LAU students from throughout Lebanon.

The United States shares the Lebanese government’s commitment to the importance of education in a free, democratic and actively engaged society.  In the last ten years, the American people through the Congress of the United States have contributed over 90 million dollars to Lebanese education.   The U.S. has contributed assistance to support education at all levels in Lebanon through the Department of State, USAID, the well-known J. William Fulbright program and the Middle East Partnership Initiative.
