Countries

USAID implements HIV/AIDS programs in nearly 100 countries. Fifty of these are through a direct in-country presence and the remainder are covered by seven regional programs.

Under President Bush’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), 15 of these have been identified as focus countries. Specific interventions depend on the nature of the epidemic in a particular country, but generally include multifaceted prevention and care components. USAID is moving rapidly to expand the availability of treatment in many of its country programs.
