| The Pu`u `O`o cone grew with each eruptive episode, eventually reaching a height of 255 m above the pre-eruption surface. In this view, the west flank of the cone is capped by white sulfate minerals, formed during alteration of the ejecta by sulfur-bearing gases. The conduit is out of view on the opposite side of the summit. |
