RALEIGH - United States Attorney John Stuart Bruce announced that STEVEN A. ROEBUCK was sentenced in federal court here on Wednesday, February 13, 2002, for income tax violations.

Chief U. S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle imposed a sentence of 24 months imprisonment, a fine of $20,000.00, and one year of supervised release.

ROEBUCK, a resident of Raleigh, N. C., changed his plea from "not guilty" to "guilty" mid-way through a jury trial in Elizabeth City during September 5-6, 2001. He pled guilty to two counts of failure to file a federal income tax return.

According to the two-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Raleigh on April 17, 2001, ROEBUCK failed to file federal income tax returns for the calendar years 1994 and 1995.

Investigation of the case was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service.
