Description This article written by Peter Hirschfeld from the Vermont Press Bureau discusses a housing bill that was approved by the state of Vermont legislators in May 2008. The housing bill encourages development in urban areas and mandates that 20 percent of homes in communities with designated downtowns, village centers, or town centers be priced at $250,000 or less. According to the article, the bill also mandates that 20 percent of rental units in these designated areas be made affordable to residents earning 60 percent of the median Vermont income. Additionally, the article indicates that the bill offers tax credits to affordable housing investors.
