FEDERAL WAY WOMAN SENTENCED TO 27 MONTHS AND
FINED $10,000 FOR AIDING AND PREPARATION OF
FALSE INCOME TAX RETURNS
John McKay, United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington; and Steve Pasholk, Special Agent-in-Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division, announced today that District Court Judge Thomas S. Zilly of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington sentenced KWANGBAE PETRA KIM, age 47, and a resident of Federal Way, Washington, to 27 months’ imprisonment and fined $10,000, to be followed by one year of supervised release for one count of aiding in the preparation of a false income tax return as set forth in the indictment.
Court documents and testimony provide that for the years 1997, 1998, and 1999, KIM aided in the preparation of a number of fraudulent tax returns in which the taxpayers received Earned Income Tax Credit to which they were not entitled. The District Court determined that KIM’s actions resulted in a criminal tax loss to the United States government of at least $397,000.
