Lexington, Ky. — Gregory F. Van Tatenhove, United
States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Charles A. Jenkins,
Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation
Division, jointly announce that LISA RENAY PONDER, age 34, of Williamsburg,
Kentucky, pleaded guilty today to an Information charging a violation of
Title 26, United States Code, Section 7206(2), assisting in the preparation
of false income tax returns. PONDER entered her guilty plea
in United States District Court in London before Judge Danny C. Reeves.
The Information provides that, from
January 29, 2001, through April 9, 2003, PONDER assisted in the preparation
of false income tax returns in that the returns represented that taxpayers
were entitled to claim deduction amounts for items when she knew that the
taxpayers were not entitled to claim the amounts.
The investigation preceding the Information
was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division.
The United States was represented in the case by Assistant United States
Attorney John Patrick Grant.
PONDER is currently scheduled
to appear for sentencing before the United States District Court in London
on May 23, 2005, at 11:00 a.m..
