How to use the USGS search

spacer

If you know exactly what you're looking for or even have a general idea, try using Abstract search. Specify a keyword or set of keywords, and the search engine will search its entire database to find listings that match the keywords you provide.

After you have specified keyword(s) inside the query box(s) and clicked on the search button, USGS will search through the three areas of its database for keyword matches. These three areas are:

  1. Author
  2. Title
  3. Abstract

The first page returned to you will be a list of matching USGS Documents that match your keywords order by date. If no matching USGS Documents are found, you may want to broaden your search.

To use this search function, simply enter data in the fields you want to search and press submit.

Example:

A search with " John Doe " as the author and " Albatross " as the title, will return all publications that John Doe has written and has the word "Albatross" in the title.

Currently, the "AND", "OR" operators are not supported. Any characters entered will be treated as a single string.
