Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT OF METHODOLOGIES AND NANODEVICES FOR FAST DETECTION OF PATHOGENIC AND TOXIC ORGANISMS IN FOOD
Location: Quality and Safety Assessment Research Unit
Project Number: 6612-42000-037-03
Project Type:
Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jul 21, 2008
End Date: Jul 21, 2009
Objective:
Develop methodologies and nanodevices for fast detection of pathogenic and toxic organisms in food, as well as in other application areas such as biosafety, and biosecurity, with ultimate sensitivity and specificity.
Approach:
To develop nanotechnology for food safety and security application, we will develop a highly-integrated AFM-based lable-less, fast single-molecule interaction recognition system (HASMIRS) for a radical new approach to detect pathogens and toxins in food at the nano and subnano scale (single molecule level), quickly (within 10 minutes) and specifically (using single molecule interaction recognition)
