Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF GROUP III-V SOYBEANS WITH ENHANCED AMINO ACID COMPOSITION AND/OR LOW PHYTATE FOR IMPROVED FEED EFFICIENCY

Objective:
1. Test the stability of amino acid concentration over environments in a newly developed soybean germplasm line with enhanced sulfur-containing amino acids. 2. Test the nutritional aspects of that improved germplasm with broiler chicken feeding experiments. 3. Develop high yielding germplasm and/or released varieties containing the low phytate trait. 4. Test nutritional quality of an improved low phytate line with broiler chicken feeding experiments.

Approach:
Test the stability of amino acid concentration over multiple environments in a newly developed germplasm line with enhanced essential sulfur-containing amino acids. Test the nutritional aspects of that improved germplasm with broiler chicken feeding experiments. Utilize molecular marker technologies, indirect chemical assays, and confirmation with HPLC primary chemistry to develop high yielding germplasm and/or released varieties containing the low phytate trait. Test nutritional quality of an improved low phytate line with broiler chicken feeding experiments.
