Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF EARLY MATURING HIGH PROTEIN, LOW PHYTATE VARIETIES WITH HIGH YIELDS AND IMPROVED AMINO ACID PROFILES

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21000-026-41
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 22, 2008
End Date: Feb 28, 2009

Objective:
1. Develop additional conventional and Roundup Ready high protein lines that can be released as germplasm and /or varieties. 2. Purify and increase seed of high protein low phytate varieties. 3. Conduct swine feeding trials to evaluate feed efficiency and various issues concerning phytate in animal manure.

Approach:
Yield test existing lines, and determine composition of the most advanced lines. Advance segregating for further selection. Test high protein and low phytate lines in Regional Uniform Tests. Grow purification rows to produce breeders seed. Advance existing populations and initiate new populations from crosses with newly discovered high protein lines.
