Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT OF MID-OLEIC, LOW-LINOLENIC, LOW-SATURATED SUBSTITUTES FOR PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL
Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research
Project Number: 6645-21000-026-35
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 22, 2008
End Date: Feb 28, 2009
Objective:
a. Develop high yielding mid-oleic and/or low linolenic oil quality cultivar/lines, with proper maturity and local adaptability.
b. Combine mid-oleic, low-linolenic, and low-sat in elite breeding backgrounds - both conventional and glyphosate resistant.
Approach:
Incorporate the mid-oleic, low-linolenic, and low-sat traits from various sources into productive varieties and breeding lines such as Ozark, and R95-1705. Analyze selections for fatty acid profile re-evaluate for yield and oil quality. Advanced 53 breeding populations derived from various crosses that combine low-sat, low-lin, mid-oleic, high protein, high oil and/or high sucrose. Evaluate as F4:5 lines in local and regional tests.
