Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF LOW-SATURATED SUBSTITUTES FOR PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21000-026-33
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 22, 2008
End Date: Feb 28, 2009

Objective:
To develop soybean varieties having less than 4% 16:0, more than 50% 18:1, and less than 4% 18:3 with agronomic performance similar to the cvs G04-G2261RR, Benning RR, and G00-3213.

Approach:
Map the genes (QTL) conditioning the oleic acid trait in two germplasms, PI417360 and PI506582. Provide DNA marker data collection for five marker- assisted mid-oleic breeding programs (AR, GA, NC, southern MO, and TN) that requires assaying DNA markers at six QTL for each cycle of breeding. Complete the backcrossing of the alleles for high oleic acid at the six QTL into the three Maturity Group VII cultivars, G04-G2261RR, Benning RR, and G00-3213.
