Research Project: EVALUATION OF ADVANCED USDA CITRUS SCION GERMPLASM

Location: Horticulture and Breeding Research

Project Number: 6618-21000-013-04
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Feb 28, 2008
End Date: Feb 28, 2013

Objective:
Screen novel citrus scion germplasm for unique fruit characteristics.

Approach:
Fruit produced on citrus hybrids will be harvested at three times during the season to identify the maturity window for the particular selection. At the time of harvest data will be collected on fruit appearance (size, shape, presence of disease), rind color, ease of peeling, presence of seeds, soluble solids, total acidity, and taste (unacceptable, potentially acceptable, or acceptable). Scion selections identified worthy of further evaluation will be propagated onto commercial rootstocks for further evaluation.
