Research Project: EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH OF METHYL BROMIDE ALTERNATIVES FOR STRAWBERRY AND VEGETABLE PRODUCTION IN SC, NC, TN AND VA

Location: Subtropical Plant Pathology Research

Project Number: 0500-00044-020-09
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 01, 2007
End Date: Oct 01, 2009

Objective:
1. Incorporate Area Wide activities and information into a website. 2. Conduct training on implementation of methyl bromide alternatives at regional meetings for Southeastern US vegetable growers.

Approach:
A website will be used to outline the objectives of the Area-Wide Pest Management Project for Methyl Bromide Alternatives. Opportunities will be created for site specific information to be uploaded by participating researchers along with updates on current findings and results. This information can be made accessible to the general public or could be password protected for Area Wide participant use only. An example of a regional meeting for Southeastern vegetable growers is the Fall Southeast Strawberry Expo held in Research Triangle Park, NC. A field tour will be arrange during the meeting to include visits to three farms involved in on-farm research trials during the 2006/2007 growing season. The tour will include hands-on demonstrations of equipment modification and calibration for application of methyl bromide alternatives.
