Research Project: FURROW DIKING TO IMPROVE PEANUT AND ROW CROPS

Location: National Peanut Research Lab

Project Number: 6604-13210-003-04
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 06, 2007
End Date: Jun 30, 2012

Objective:
Determine if furrow diking will aid in irrigation efficiency. The could have a tremendous impact on water rates used during irrigation applications on peanuts and other crops.

Approach:
Research with furrow diking has shown that irrigation efficiency can be improved compared to non-diked land. Furrow diking practices will be implemented and may increase soil water infiltration and require lesser irrigation. Crop yield and soil water potential will be monitored. Variations of water availability in soil will be recorded.
