Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF CP SUGARCANE CULTIVARS FOR FLORIDA

Location: Canal Point, Florida

Project Number: 6625-22000-009-01
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 21, 2006
End Date: Mar 14, 2011

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research is the development of new disease-resistant high-yielding sugarcane cultivars specifically adapted for Florida.

Approach:
Cross superior sugarcane to produce "true-seed", germinate in greenhouse and transplant individual seedlings (clones) to field. Evaluate and select superior high-yielding disease-resistant sugarcane clones in multi-year trials in a tri-party cooperative program on ARS and on grower farm locations and to vegetatively increase seedcane of the seeded clones.
