Research Project: BARRIER TREATMENT FOR PROTECTION FROM MOSQUITOES

Location: Mosquito and Fly Research Unit

Project Number: 6615-32000-043-11
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 01, 2005
End Date: Aug 30, 2009

Objective:
Assess (1) perimeter barrier treatments in adult mosquito resting habitats and (2) an outdoor small plot protocol for screening potential barrier pesticides.

Approach:
Protection of deployed war fighters from vector species of mosquitoes is complicated by logistical and operational constraints. In many areas of deployment these constraints make using traditional insecticide application technology impractical. This research will focus on developing appropriate insecticide application technology for treatment of vegetation and harborage areas (mosquito resting sites) near rice fields in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
