Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF MID OLEIC, LOW-LINOLENIC, LOW-SATURATED SUBSTITUTES FOR PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OIL

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21000-026-20
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 01, 2005
End Date: Mar 31, 2008

Objective:
Develop productive soybeans in maturity groups IV-V having less than 4% 16:0 and less than 4% 18:3. Incorporate higher oleic acid (18:1) genes into low saturated, and low linolenic breeding lines and populations.

Approach:
Establish soybean populations for selection of agronomic varieties with improved oil quality through traditional plant breeding methods. Scientists and technicians associated with the project: W.J. Kenworthy and J.W. Burton.
