Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNOLOGIES FOR PROTECTION OF DEPLOYED WAR FIGHTERS FROM ARTHROPODS THAT VECTOR DISEASE

Objective:
Screen, develop, and evaluate new and existing public health insecticides and repellents and improve application methods to provide protection to deployed warfighters from arthropod vectors of disease.

Approach:
A consultant will facilitate the interaction of ARS scientists with agrochemical/pesticide industries and coordinate the activities of participating ARS research units (Mosquito and Fly Research Unit (MFRU), Gainesville, FL; Chemicals Affecting Insect Behavior Laboratory, Beltsville, MD; Arthropod Borne Animal Diseases, Laramie, WY; Areawide Pest Management Research Unit, College Station, TX; and Knipling-Bushland Livestock Insects Research Laboratory, Kerrville, TX) to effectively develop new public health pesticides and novel application technologies. MFRU will screen, evaluate and provide information on potential improvements for insecticides and application technologies.
