Research Project: DATABASE COMPILATION AND ANALYSIS

Location: Cotton Quality Research

Project Number: 6655-41440-003-09
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jan 01, 2008
End Date: Dec 31, 2008

Objective:
Improved understanding of the impact on textile process/product quality of several cotton fiber quality issues including: short fiber, neps, excess moisture, stickiness, and general fabric defects.

Approach:
Apply a wide array of advanced statistical techniques to study the following issues related to cotton quality: ¿ Variance Components Analysis to study the uniformity of distribution of fiber properties throughout commercial cotton bales. ¿ Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis to elucidate the relationships between short fiber measurement techniques and defects in cotton yarns. ¿ Principal Components Analysis to deconvolute near infrared spectra of cottons at different moisture levels.
