Michael W. Aube, State Director

As State Director for Rural Development in Maine, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the USDA Rural Development Web site for the state of Maine.

Rural Development is a diverse mission area of the United States Department of Agriculture comprised of the  utilities programs business-cooperative programs, and the  housing programs. These three program areas provide a variety of financial services to communities and individuals in the state of Maine.

We have offices in Bangor, Lewiston, Scarborough, and Presque Isle to administer the loan and grant programs for Rural Development in the state. Our goal is to work with other federal, state, and local groups to enhance the quality of life in rural Maine. Our dedicated employees work diligently to assist the people of rural Maine and to develop sustainable rural communities. We measure our success by the impact on the lives of the people that we serve.

We provide financing for many different programs that benefit the citizens of rural Maine.  Our multi-family housing programs provide apartments for families and senior citizens.  Our water and sewer loan and grant programs financed improvements in numerous communities servicing thousands of households and providing them with safe drinking water and modern sewage disposal systems. Hundreds of families have become homeowners, most for the first time. Businesses have received financing that allowed them to expand, creating and saving rural employment opportunities. Fire, rescue, and medical services, as well as daycare centers and nursing homes, have benefited from USDA Rural Development programs.

I hope the information you find here is helpful. Thanks for visiting our Web site. We look forward to serving you.
