Improved
Integrated Management of Child and Reproductive Health
USAID
is targeting maternal and child health and family planning
services in areas of highest need, mostly in western Honduras.
Child health activities expand on the successful Integrated
Community Child Health Program, which emphasizes basic prevention
and treatment services and referrals by trained community
volunteers. USAID activities in maternal health are dedicated
to the improved and expanded provision of essential obstetric
care, while current family planning activities emphasize
the expansion of long-term and permanent voluntary family
planning methods, through public and private clinics.
The PL 480 Title II Program assists vulnerable populations in extremely poor municipalities of western and southern Honduras through:
- increased food availability and access;
- improved utilization of food by the body through adequate maternal child care and reproductive health care; and
- improved departmental, municipal and community capacity for strategic development.
This includes activities to promote sustainable crop production and marketing, and changes in health knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP).
